CAUTION! Dreams ahead...
After a lot of one-to-one with junior high girls, highschool girls, and college girls i get the same response from all of them.
"This world bites."
Okay. i know. i live in this world too. Sometimes i get a little bitter about how corruption can warp the minds of innocence as media feeds us lies all day long.
What causes a little girl to abandon the simplicity of childhood and chase after dreams of the fantacy of maturity? Her sweet innocent mind is brutely hit with the cold reality of life as a "grown-up," the relational conflicts that deprive the mind of happiness, and the ugly pressures of responsibility that come with maturity. To grow up so quickly from child. to lady. to woman. Blink and you miss it. Blink and she doesn't even know what happened. Suddenly finding herself in a body that is not her own now with the attention of men's eyes and the hating eyes of fellow sisters...in a world where popularity is everything, love is meaningless, and indulging in self-absorbancy is encouraged without question. Living in a society that ranks her personality on a points system and if you don't have enough points - you loose or you're a looser. The stares, whispers behind the back jabbing and stabbing, stealing the joy of innocence from youthful and restless potential. The world at your fingertip? Or your fingertip at the world? Just sicking your finger in? Come on - they say - why not just dive in head first? It will feel like a thousand ice cubes down your back. Startling at first, then exciting, turning uncomfortable, painful, wet, cold, empty, lonely ...as your "friends" laugh and abandon you once they realize your pockets are empty and your personality unchanging. What now? They have stolen youth and innocence and they are no more...to take back what has been done is impossible. To continue living is truly meaningless. Life as she knows it has found itself truly meaningless. To think that it started so simply...chasing a dream. Unfortunately, the magnitude of pursuing fantasies can only truly be learned by living and feeling the heat of the burn.
i've been there. and i can't go back. neither can you. But it is my hope and my prayer that as women of faith we would walk up beside these young ones and help shape their dreams...that we would inspire them to chase a life beyond what this world tells them all they can be...to model a life of beauty in the gentle and quiet spirit of a servant...to give them a hope for the future and a burning desire for romance in the arms of their dear Savior...to encourage, laugh with, and cry with. i can't do this alone. We are in a battle over souls and i will give my dying breath in defense of God's abundant love for His daughters. but know this...caution is advised. Dreams ahead...
