in response to:
in response to the documentary we recently watched about human trafficking -
to my American friends:
a sober spirit fell upon us with tears attempting to balance on the edge of our lashes. a great heart of sorrow, almost pity, was felt for these women who were deprived of any value or worth as a human being. a silent anger burned for the injustice done. my heart was disquieted - disquieted, yes, but perhaps not with shared sentiments. there was no feeling of guilt living in my middle class American home with a loving family and completely whole body and no threats to my life. as perfect as my life is compared to some of these women, all i saw in their life, compared to mine, was no Jesus...the loneliness and isolation of thinking there is a "god" somewhere out there but not feeling Him or knowing Him or understanding why these things are happening, lack of community of believers encouraging and supporting these women through their struggles, the mundane sin night after night, the heartache ....
there is a drive in me after watching such movies that i should do something to help...and a feeling of not doing enough here at home. though these women's situations look hopeless, i remember that they are lost people and lost lives are never hopeless because of the hope Jesus Christ gave us at the cross. since i'm here and they're there, i feel like prayer is the only thing i can do for these dying souls. i believe in the power of prayer, but sometimes i want to do something more. then i remember that if they don't have Jesus and are living in sin, they need Christ's forgiveness as much as my neighbor down the street. sin - all sin - in God's eyes is wrong...and all sin without repentance and the Lord's forgiveness is deserving of hell.
let me ask you - what makes one person higher priority than another? by that i mean in reaching the lost. who says one is more lost than another? lost is lost - no matter what circumstances encompass a single life. if is a social injustice that you cry about after watching a film that makes social injustices blatantly evident - dude, open your eyes to those you are around on a daily basis! hurt, lies, and exploitation exist in everyday forms EVERYWHERE around you. maybe your cushioned, "fake-smiles" America has sheltered you from the truth of what lies under the streets of cities, what happens in the dark of night, and what goes on behind closed doors. reality check here - the same mouth-gaping, astonishing brutality happens in America - and not just in some fanciful fiction on your TV screen from those disgusting shows you watch at night, but in YOUR HOMETOWN - in YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. humans enslaved by lust and greed, bound by the lies of satan, are wicked and will do evil in the sight of God and man regardless of their poverty level, their social economic status, their family background, or their education.
they need Jesus. they NEED Him. so much. sin will continue to exist until the end of the world - it says so in His Word, and life as we know it is going to get messier. i'm not really looking forward to living on this earth much longer and sometimes i wonder why even fight? But this is what God has called us to and equipped us for. This same love that God showed towards us must compel us forward to reach the lost, to continue to intercede in prayer, to spread the light of Christ, to be used by God to bring hope to the nations.
i am just one life. but one life that, by God's grace, will do all she can to bring hope to hopeless people.
